3 Generations

Considered as one of the best among the sports car, Porsche 911 GT2 is German made, by the German Manufacturer Porsche, based on the 911 Turbo. The car is notable for the rear-engine design like the Porsche-designed Volkswagen Beetle. Porsche 911 was also air-cooled until the introduction of 966. From the time of its inception till today the car is undergoing continuous development but the basic concept remained the same. The car comes with more features including a powerful engine, stiffer suspension calibration and larger brakes. Porsche GT2 is lighter when compared to the normal Turbo as it uses the rear-wheel drive. The first 993 generation was built especially for motorsports. The GT2 was developed for the entry in the grand tourer racing replacing the Carrera RSRs. Featuring with the widened plastic fenders with a large rear wing with air scoops. This was again replaced by 993 generation 911 in 1999 with the new 966 model. The new GT2 had the turbo-charged version of the GT3’s 3.6l H6 engine. Initially it featured an output of 462hp (345kw) which was later increased to 483hp. The body of the GR2 differed from those of the other 966s like wider fenders and a large rear wing. This was again superseded by the 997generation GT2 in 2007.

Porsche gave a new approach in designing the new Porsche 911 GT2. There is a drastic improvement in the performance and in the efficiency mainly through the turbo changing system. The turbo and compressor have been specially designed to adapt to the engine output so it can offer a higher turbo charging process. There is a higher rate of exhaust flow through the main silencer. The rear wheel drives is similar to the ones of a racing car. The rear wing is fixed and ensures optimum stability at speed. Once you’re pressed into your seat the car accelerates and the air is forced though the openings on the rear wing uprights. This gives a greater engine performance.

Knowing the potential of the car which is fast and reliable, there was a demand for a car to replace the 964 generation Carrera RSRs. The 993GT2 race car was built in rollcage for safety with the minor adjustments to the body so that the weight is decreased and the down force is increased with wider fenders to handle racing slicks. 911 have been in constant modification for racing, rallying and other types of motorsports. Considered as the most successful competitive, the car has won more major championship sports car races. One of the noted changes in the 911 is the all alloy multi-arm rear suspension which is attached to the all-alloy sub-frame. The design derived from the four-door sedan which was never made. 992 was the 1st generation of the 911 to have 6speed manual transmission. There were several technical improvements in the 911 which includes the new dual-flow exhaust, revised power steering and large brakes with drilled discs. With the launch of this GT2 several competitors continue to build their own versions.
